SEZ “Astana” is planned to be expanded by 40 percent
“Regions are asking questions of expanding the territories of the SEZ “Astana” and free zone “Ontustik” in Shymkent. The main issue of the Astana special economic zone is that now out of the 600 hectares there are 26 hectares of free land, therefore now it is necessary to solve the issue of the construction of a second park with an area of 433 hectares. According to the minister, in total there are 10 special economic zones in the sphere of manufacturing industry with different sectoral specialization in Kazakhstan.
There are 3 FEZs under the government’s’ ownership: 2 – under the Ministry for Investment and Development (this is the SEZ PIT “Alatau” and “Burabai”), SEZ in Atyrau is managed by the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
5 municipal ones – SEZ “Astana”, “Aktau sea port”, “Sary-Arka”, “Pavlodar”, “Ontustik”, and 2 SEZs in the quasi-public sector – chemical park “Taraz” and “Khorgos”.
In total, 275 billion tenge were invested in the infrastructure of 10 SEZ over the years. 157 projects were launched on the territory of all SEZ, out of which 32 – with foreign participation. Investments in the amount of KZT 651 billion were attracted, over 11,000 jobs were created. 107 billion tenge was returned to the budget in the form of taxes.
For 1 tenge from governmental budget, private investors invested 2.4 tenge. “This year it is planned to launch 24 more projects with investments of about KZT 100 billion with the creation of 3 thousand new jobs and 20 projects are expected to be launched in 2017,” the minister concluded.
