The Roadmap in Action: How Artificial Intelligence Is Transforming Kazakhstan’s Industry

Domestic industry is entering the digital era. Companies across the country are actively adopting artificial intelligence, thanks in part to the Roadmap for the Implementation of Practical Artificial Intelligence Solutions in the Production Processes of Large Enterprises for 2025–2026, launched last year. The document, developed to fulfill the instructions of the Head of State, is designed to accelerate the digital transformation of industry and expand the practical application of neural networks.

Two relevant ministries — the Ministry of Industry and Construction and the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development — have included 41 projects in the Roadmap for implementation at 11 major enterprises in 2025–2026. These include industrial companies such as Qarmet JSC and Altynalmas JSC, SaryarkaAvtoProm LLP, Kazakhmys Corporation, Kazphosphate, KazZinc, Solidcore Eurasia, Kainar-AKB, and Astana Motors Manufacturing Kazakhstan, the Eurasian Group (ERG), and the KAZ Minerals Group. Although digital transformation at these enterprises began long before the Roadmap was launched, it nevertheless enabled these processes to reach a new level and has already yielded tangible economic benefits.

The practical phase of the Roadmap’s implementation was the Industrial AI Acceleration program, launched in October 2025. It enabled the rapid selection and preparation of innovative solutions for subsequent implementation at large enterprises. During the AI Acceleration program, more than 220 representatives of industrial companies, technology startups, and industry experts participated, including over 20 international specialists in the field of artificial intelligence. As part of the acceleration program, 95 traction meetings (meetings to discuss results) were held, along with over 50 hours of training and practical workshops, and 136 presentations of AI solutions were organized for potential customers.

As a result of this work, 24 pilot projects were initiated, seven of which have already been launched into commercial operation, while another 17 are in the preparation stage for launch in the first quarter of 2026.

As part of the Roadmap, an operational response center was established at the SaryarkaAvtoProm automobile plant. The AI system analyzes data from cameras and sensors, instantly detecting incidents and eliminating security errors. This has led to a reduction in incident detection time, a decrease in false alarms, and has ensured unified digital security control.

ERG has implemented the ERG MES (Manufacturing Execution System) digital platform, which integrates production and business processes. The solution enables real-time tracking of production output, process parameters, losses, and equipment downtime.

ERG MES has been implemented at the Aktobe and Aksu ferroalloy plants, the Kazakhstan Electrolysis Plant, and the Don Mining and Processing Plant. Downtime due to overheating has been reduced by 75%, with 80% of detected defects confirmed by operators.

The system incorporates the MES Alina digital assistant, which opens the necessary reports and screens and retrieves data from equipment in response to voice or text requests. This reduces response time to production deviations and improves operator efficiency. The economic benefit from the implementation of ERG MES last year alone amounted to approximately 1.5 billion tenge. This clearly demonstrates that digitalization in the industrial sector is not just a trend, but a sound business decision and even a driver of revenue.

At the production sites of KAZ Minerals — Kazakhstan’s largest copper producer—artificial intelligence is being implemented in phases. For example, at the Aktogay mine in the Abai region, a modernized HxGN Systems dispatch system has gone live, integrated with AI tools to optimize transport flows. Whereas dispatchers used to sit in front of multiple screens and direct dump truck drivers via radio, the new system does this automatically and with much greater precision.

Meanwhile, Solidcore Eurasia (the Bakyrchik Mining Enterprise) has launched an automated medical examination system for workers in hazardous industries.

Initiatives under the Map have been made possible thanks to government support. Measures implemented by the Ministry of Industry and Construction, in collaboration with the Kazakhstan Center for Industry and Export (QazIndustry), enable training on the digital transformation of enterprises, provide advisory and organizational assistance, and reimburse companies for the costs of implementing digital technologies. Last year, experts conducted a technological audit at enterprises and prepared more than 20 recommendations for digitizing production. Fourteen webinars were held with 240 participants.

This year, the digitization of enterprises under the Roadmap will continue. Plans include projects to implement robotic technology, intelligent systems, video analytics, AI assistants and digital twins, Big Data platforms, and more. Overall, this will significantly raise the level of digital maturity in the industrial sector.
