Renovated College of Telecommunications and Mechanical Engineering Opens in Almaty

New academic buildings and a dormitory have been constructed for the Almaty College of Telecommunications and Mechanical Engineering. During a working tour, the mayor of the metropolis, Darkhan Satybaldy, visited the educational institution and familiarized himself with the organization of the educational process, according to Almaty.tv.

The college trains qualified specialists for the telecommunications and mechanical engineering sectors. Instruction is conducted in Kazakh and Russian using a dual education system and a modular competency-based approach, which ensures a close link between theory and practice and aligns training with labor market demands.

The college has a design capacity of 1,050 students. Of these, 340 students study directly at the college (in two shifts), while the rest acquire professional skills through on-the-job training at specialized enterprises.

The complex, consisting of five buildings, was built on the site of demolished structures from the 1940s. The college’s infrastructure consists of 17 classrooms for general education subjects, 17 specialized classrooms, 6 training workshops, and 2 laboratories. To support the students’ well-rounded development, the facility includes a gym, an auditorium, and a dining hall with seating for 200. A dormitory with 118 beds is located on the college grounds.

The building also houses administrative offices, a medical clinic, a library, and a reading room. The grounds are landscaped and feature green spaces and sports fields. The building and surrounding grounds are fully accessible to people with limited mobility.

According to college administrators, auto mechanics and logistics specialists are in high demand among employers.

“As the Head of State noted, given our country’s potential, Kazakhstan must become a key logistics hub in Eurasia. Therefore, it is particularly important to train qualified specialists. The city has allocated funds for the construction of a modern educational institution equipped with all the necessary conditions for high-quality vocational education and practical training.

We will continue to develop educational infrastructure and training programs that meet modern requirements,” emphasized Darkhan Satybaldy.
