In the 2025–2026 academic year, the number of students in technical and vocational education institutions enrolled in dual education will reach 135,000. This is 27,000 more than last year, according to the press service of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Dual education allows students to combine theoretical training with practical experience: students spend up to 60% of their study time directly in the workplace, mastering in-demand professions in real-world conditions.
Today, this system has been implemented in 552 colleges across the country, with the participation of over 18,000 companies. Among them are leading firms in the fields of mechanical engineering, construction, energy, IT, and services. This model of cooperation provides students with practical experience and employers with a workforce trained to meet specific operational needs.
“The development of dual education is one of the priorities in the technical and vocational education system. Today, more than 70% of college graduates who studied under state-funded programs find jobs in their field immediately after graduation,” notes Aset Mukhanbetov, Director of the Department of Technical and Vocational Education.
In 2024, more than 30,000 graduates completed state-funded education through the dual education system, 71% of whom are already employed.
As part of the Year of Blue-Collar Professions and the transformation of the technical and vocational education system, the proportion of students enrolled in the dual education system will increase to 50% by 2027. Key initiatives include the opening of the International Center for Dual Education in partnership with the University of Erfurt in Germany, as well as the development of a mentorship program with the support of the Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs.
