KTZ attracts financing for large-scale renewal of its locomotive fleet

During the Head of State's official visit to the United States, a key Mandate Agreement was signed to attract $1.6 billion in financing over a 10-year period to renew KTZ's locomotive fleet.

Deliveries of Wabtec locomotives are planned for the long term, until 2038.

The agreement was concluded between JSC “NC ”Kazakhstan Temir Zholy" and Citibank, acting as the financing coordinator. Support for this strategic deal is provided by the Export-Import Bank of the United States (US EXIM), which acts as the guarantor.

The locomotives will be manufactured in Kazakhstan at the Lokomotiv Kurastyru Zauyty JSC plant in Astana, a subsidiary of Wabtec Transportation Engines Holding B.V.

This procurement program is aimed at a comprehensive upgrade of the traction rolling stock, which will significantly improve the energy efficiency of transportation and reliably meet the growing needs of freight traffic.
