Key priorities for the domestic machinery industry have been identified

The 13th Forum of Kazakhstan Machinery Manufactures was held in Astana on April 2–3. The event traditionally brings together the business community and government officials to discuss the current state and future prospects of the industry.

Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov participated in the forum and visited the 7th International Specialized Exhibition on Mechanical Engineering and Metalworking, Kazakhstan Machinery Fair 2026.

In his speech at the forum’s plenary session, the Prime Minister emphasized that, in accordance with the instructions of the Head of State given in the Address to the Nation and at the expanded Government meeting, work is underway in Kazakhstan to create a predictable and stable environment for the development of the machine-building industry. The joint task of the state and business is to ensure fair and safe working conditions and to develop a system of social partnership.

Last year, production in the machine-building industry reached 5.7 trillion tenge, with the physical volume index growing by nearly 13%. Domestic manufacturers are entering foreign markets with greater confidence, as evidenced by a twofold increase in exports over five years: from $1.3 billion to $3.1 billion.

Investment in fixed assets increased by one-third, reaching approximately 376 billion tenge. This confirms the business community’s confidence in current government policy and lays the groundwork for its further modernization.

Meiram Pshembaev, Chairman of the Board of the Association of Kazakhstan Machinery Industry, emphasized that the industry’s further development is directly linked to the adoption of advanced technologies and the digital transformation of industry.

“Robotization and digital technologies are becoming a key factor in boosting productivity and strengthening the competitiveness of the machine-building sector and industry as a whole. Particular attention is being paid to the introduction of modern technologies into production, the development of the domestic market, and the expansion of Kazakhstani machine builders’ participation in key sectors of the economy,” noted Meyram Pshembaev.

The forum was attended by members of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, representatives of relevant ministries, national companies, business communities, major consumers, and leading manufacturers of machine-building products.

Over the two days of the Forum, panel sessions and breakout sessions addressed issues related to the implementation of the Comprehensive Plan for the Development of Mechanical Engineering, the improvement of support mechanisms for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the introduction of robotics and digitalization, the stimulation of industry development, workforce training, and the development of promising sectors: railway, agricultural, oil and gas, electrical engineering, automotive, and mining and metallurgical machinery.

A number of important agreements and memorandums were signed during the Forum. These included a Memorandum of Cooperation and Collaboration with the Czech Association of Engineering Technologies, off-take contracts, and letters of intent regarding the supply of products from domestic manufacturers to JSC “NAC “Kazatomprom,” JSC “QazaqGaz,” and ERG Commercial Center LLP.

The Forum reaffirmed the strategic role of mechanical engineering for the country’s economy and served as a platform for developing practical solutions to advance the industry and enhance its export and technological potential.
