Kazakhstani automotive engineers are studying the intricacies of electric vehicle maintenance, reports a 24KZ correspondent.
In Ust-Kamenogorsk, as part of an international partnership, specialists from Kazakhstan and China are holding a competition on the repair and diagnostics of electric motors. Representatives of China’s largest automotive conglomerates are observing the mechanics at work. The most promising technicians will receive internships at Chinese automobile plants.
Students from technical universities and colleges in East Kazakhstan are gaining international practical experience. Future mechanical engineers are honing their skills at the Lu-ban workshop in Ust-Kamenogorsk. The latest models of electric vehicles are on display here. Groups of auto mechanics are diagnosing electric motors in a competitive setting.
Murat Muzdybaev, Professor, Candidate of Technical Sciences:
- We must integrate into the international arena where professionals for the industry are trained. Whether we like it or not, this is an objective necessity. That is why participating in such competitions is extremely important for us.
The teams must inspect all electrical equipment within an hour and identify any potential malfunctions. There can be no mistakes. The work is evaluated by engineers from Chinese automobile plants. The best candidates will be selected for an internship.
Ilyas Isakanov, a student at East Kazakhstan Technical University:
- Today there is a problem—a shortage of specialists in the maintenance of electric and hybrid vehicles, which are becoming increasingly common in the Kazakhstani market. This experience will allow us to represent our country on the global stage.
Kazakhstani car manufacturers and dealerships need a new generation of mechanics. This need is driven by the growing demand for electric vehicles. From January to August 2025, over 7,000 electric cars were imported into the country. Today, at least 15,000 such vehicles are on the country’s roads, while a year ago there were half as many. That is why automakers are already carefully selecting specialists.
Kirill Larionov, Technical Director of a repair and maintenance facility, Ust-Kamenogorsk:
- This industry is developing very rapidly today. More and more companies are purchasing these types of vehicles, and the demand for specialists is growing every year.
Vyacheslav Vetlugin, correspondent:
- Kazakhstan’s machine-building industry is keeping pace with the times. Engineers are implementing eco-friendly solutions. For example, a factory for manufacturing electric buses will open in Almaty. And this is no longer the future, but the present.
