Kazakhstan’s economy is strengthening its position thanks to growth in the manufacturing sector

In the first four months of 2026, Kazakhstan’s manufacturing sector grew by 9.9%.

Growth was recorded in virtually all major sectors. Production volumes increased most significantly in light industry, mechanical engineering, the production of construction materials, and the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.

Mechanical engineering emerged as one of the main drivers of growth. The sector grew by 23.3%. The country began producing more automobiles, electrical equipment, electronics, and machinery. Passenger car production increased by 36.5%. This is linked to the launch of new KIA car plants in Kostanay and a multi-brand plant in Almaty. Additionally, the Atyrau Carriage Works began producing tank cars.

The chemical industry is also showing significant growth — +18.4%. Production of polypropylene, sulfuric acid, fertilizers, and paint and varnish products has increased. The launch of new production facilities by EuroChem-Karatau contributed to this growth.

Production of construction materials grew by 27.7%. Kazakhstan has increased its production of cement, concrete, mortar, and reinforced concrete structures. Today, domestic enterprises fully supply the domestic market with essential construction materials.

The highest growth was recorded in the light industry — production volume more than doubled. The country has increased its production of textiles, clothing, footwear, and leather goods. This growth is linked to the launch of new enterprises for wool processing, carpet production, geosynthetics, and cotton yarn in the Aktobe, Atyrau, Almaty, and Turkestan regions.

In addition, production of plastic products, metal structures, furniture, paper, food, and beverages has increased.

Overall, this growth is driven by the launch of new production facilities and the ramp-up of previously commissioned enterprises to full capacity. In January–April 2026 alone, 43 new projects worth 144.8 billion tenge were commissioned in Kazakhstan. This has created 2,745 new jobs.
