Kazakhstan Sees Growth in Manufacturing Sector

Highest growth recorded in West Kazakhstan, North Kazakhstan, and Zhambyl regions

Manufacturing output in Kazakhstan increased by 6.2%, according to First Vice Minister of National Economy Azamat Amrin, reports Azattyq Rýhy.

“Manufacturing output increased by 6.2%, although the growth rate slowed by 0.3 percentage points compared to the January–August period. Growth was recorded in 17 regions, with the highest increases seen in West Kazakhstan, North Kazakhstan, and Zhambyl regions, as well as in the cities of Shymkent and Almaty. A decline in production was observed in East Kazakhstan, Akmola, and Ulytau regions,” said Amrin during a government meeting on Tuesday.

According to him, growth in the manufacturing sector was driven by increased output in several key industries:

  • Mechanical engineering — up 14%, including automobile manufacturing — up 16.8%,
  • Food production — up 9.8%,
  • Chemical industry — up 9.6%,
  • Oil refining — up 7.5%,
  • Metal products — up 15.2%.

“The slowdown in overall growth was influenced by weaker performance in metallurgy, where growth dropped to 0.3%. In particular, production in ferrous metallurgy fell by 0.9%,” Amrin clarified.

According to the Ministry of National Economy, mining industry output increased by 9.3%. Within the sector, natural gas production rose by 15.2%, oil production — by 13.2%, and coal output — by 10.4%.

Despite the overall positive trend, construction growth has slowed down.

“The volume of construction work grew by 14.9%, but the growth rate declined by 3.2 percentage points. Construction growth was observed in 17 regions, with the highest increases in Astana, Almaty, North Kazakhstan, Akmola, and Turkestan regions. Declines were recorded in Atyrau region, Shymkent, and Abai region,” added Amrin.
