Karaganda machine builders: for mines, factories, and thermal power plants

Machine building is a strategic industry on which the development of Kazakhstan's economy directly depends. The sector is developing particularly dynamically in the Karaganda region, where industrial giants requiring metallurgical, mining and processing, and lifting and transport equipment are concentrated.

A striking example of heavy engineering is the CEM-Geomash plant, which is a member of the Association of Kazakhstan Machinery Industry. The company has been operating for over 11 years and specializes in the production of transport conveyors, spare parts for them, and various metal structures.

Today, the plant's products are supplied not only to domestic companies such as Kazakhmys Corporation, ERG, and Qarmet JSC, but also for export, in particular to Kyrgyzstan. Conveyor lines “made in Karaganda” are installed at the Donskoy Mining and Processing Plant in Kromtau, the Zhezkazgan Enrichment Plant No. 2, the Karaganda Thermal Power Plant-3, and the capital's Thermal Power Plant-1.

The director of the enterprise, Anastasia Shatalova, notes:

“We try to support domestic suppliers as much as possible. If we have the opportunity to purchase domestic materials, we do so. Why? Because I believe that Kazakhstani manufacturers should support each other, as this is how our business community develops.”

Today, the plant employs about 60 people, more than half of whom are production staff. The plant has a complete technological cycle: from the design of parts to the assembly and painting of finished conveyors.

An important indicator is the level of Kazakhstani content, which reaches 60-80%. However, the enterprise faces the problem of importing rolled metal: the required grades of steel are not yet produced domestically.

Special attention is paid to personnel training. CEM-Geomash cooperates with colleges, inviting students to paid internships with the possibility of employment. Young specialists find stable work, growth prospects, and decent pay at the plant.

"The CEM-Geomash plant demonstrates that even small teams can make a significant contribution to the development of domestic mechanical engineering. It is important for the Union of Machine Builders to support such companies, which shape the domestic market, develop exports, and provide personnel for the future of the industry," said Talgat Bazarbekov, director of the executive directorate of the Association of Kazakhstan Machinery Industry .
