Karaganda to Host National Mechanical Engineering Competition for Students and High Schoolers

The Karaganda Foundry and Machine-Building Plant (KLMZ), a member of the Association of Kazakhstan Machinery Industry, in collaboration with the Abylkas Saginov Karaganda Technical University, is organizing the National Mechanical Engineering Olympiad for university and college students as well as high school seniors.

The Olympiad aims to promote mechanical engineering disciplines, identify promising talent, and enhance the prestige of the country’s educational institutions. One of the event’s key objectives is to foster interest in the profession of mechanical engineering, improve participants’ theoretical knowledge and practical skills, and cultivate professional thinking among future specialists. In addition, the competition plays an important role in the development of the dual education system in Kazakhstan, creating conditions for students to gain firsthand experience with production processes and industry requirements.

The competition will take place in two stages. The qualifying round will be held September 8, 2025 online. Participants will have 50 minutes to answer 50 questions on logic, mathematics, physics, and the fundamentals of mechanical engineering. The results will be published on September 11 on the website klmz.pro and on the Instagram account @klmz_maker. Based on the results of the first round, the top 15 participants will advance to the second stage.

The competition finals will take place on September 27, 2025 in Karaganda at the KLMZ facility (103/2 Orlova St., Shop No. 1). On that day, the finalists will complete both theoretical and practical tasks: from quick-fire questions and sketching parts to welding, assembling components, and developing control software. An independent jury will evaluate the participants’ work; the jury will include faculty members from Abylkas Saginov Karagandy Technical University, plant specialists, and representatives of the Union of Machine Builders of Kazakhstan.

The winners of the competition will receive valuable prizes. First place will be awarded a grant for four years of study, second place an annual scholarship, and third place an Apple MacBook laptop. The jury will also select winners of special categories, for which commemorative prizes have been prepared.

High school students in grades 9–12, as well as college and university students, are invited to participate.

The competition will serve as a significant platform for identifying and supporting talented young people who will be able to make a significant contribution to the development of Kazakhstan’s machine-building industry in the future.
