The final of the II Republican Olympiad in Mechanical Engineering was held at he Maker (KLMZ) LLP, a member of the Association of Kazakhstan Machinery Industry.
The event was organized by the Maker (KLMZ) LLP in cooperation with the Abylkas Saginov Karaganda Technical University. The Olympiad brought together talented schoolchildren, students, and young professionals from all over Kazakhstan, becoming an important platform for identifying promising talent and promoting the profession of mechanical engineer.
A delegation from the Association of Kazakhstan Machinery Industry, led by Deputy Executive Director Arman Galimov, took part in the final of the Olympiad, which underscored the Association's special attention to training future personnel for the industry.
The first round, which took place online on September 8, was attended by 137 people from different regions of the country. Based on the results of the qualifying stage, the 14 best participants advanced to the final.
Alibek Aldeney, Deputy Governor of the Karaganda Region, spoke about the significance of the event for the region:
"Technologists, engineers, and designers form the basis of the economy. Today's event is particularly significant because Karaganda is the industrial heart of Kazakhstan, where 40% of the region's GDP comes from manufacturing and industry. Mechanical engineering occupies a special place here. In recent years, many mechanical engineering projects have been implemented in the region, from the assembly of large-scale equipment to the production of household appliances. All this not only improves the quality of life of the population, but also strengthens the economic structure of the region. However, people remain the main driver of these changes. And today, it is the participants of the Olympiad who embody the future of the industry, because it is the representatives of this profession who are responsible for tomorrow.
Zhanibek Baigabelov, Chairman of the Board of the Maker (KLMZ) LLP, addressed the finalists with words of encouragement, wishing them confidence and faith in their own abilities:
“When this idea first came up, we had our doubts: would it have a future, would there be demand for such a competition, are there children who want to become mechanical engineers? It turned out that there are many of them. And they are talented, promising, and forward-thinking. Mechanical engineering is taking an increasingly important place in all industries in Kazakhstan.”
The finalists performed complex tasks, ranging from quick-fire questions and sketching details to welding, assembling components, and developing a control program. The work was evaluated by an independent jury, which included KarTU teachers and plant specialists.
The winners of the competition were:
Nikolai Berezko (Petropavlovsk, Baiken Ashimov Petropavlovsk College of Mechanical Engineering and Transport, 4th year) – a grant for four years of study;
Agibai Dumanuly (Balkhash, Kazakhmys Corporation Polytechnic College, 4th year) – a one-year grant;
Merey Nogaybaeva (Shymkent, Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Physics and Mathematics, 12th grade) – a MacBook laptop.
The competition aims to promote mechanical engineering professions, identify talented young people and build a talent pool, strengthen the dual education system, and enhance the prestige of educational institutions in Kazakhstan.
The Association of Kazakhstan Machinery Industry notes that such initiatives contribute to the formation of professional thinking among young specialists and create conditions for their integration into the production processes of the mechanical engineering industry.
