A panel session devoted to import substitution and localization of production in railway engineering was held as part of the 13th Kazakhstan Mechanical Engineers Forum. Representatives from government agencies, railcar-building, and locomotive-building companies participated in the discussion.
Experts discussed government support measures for the industry and increased localization of rolling stock and railway products.
Ramazan Sadyrkulov, Chief Engineer of JSC NC KTZ, noted that key areas of work include import substitution of railway products, the development of domestic technologies and manufacturing competencies, localization of key component production, as well as improving the regulatory framework and launching new products into mass production.
"The creation and implementation of domestic equivalents of imported components will reduce dependence on foreign supplies, create new jobs, and enhance the competitiveness of Kazakhstan's railway engineering industry," he emphasized.
Of particular importance in the industry is not only the development of new technology but also its proper implementation. Every car, locomotive, or infrastructure element undergoes a full cycle—from the development of technical requirements and development to testing and serial production.
"Starting production confirms that the product has passed the required tests, and the company is ready to mass-produce it to the required quality level. This ensures operational safety and reliability," noted Zhandos Musin, Director of the Technical Center at JSC NC KTZ.
