Construction has begun on the Asia United Steel plant within the “Kazybek-bek” industrial zone in the Zhambyl District of the Almaty Region. According to experts, the plant has every chance of becoming a new industrial giant in the region. The project’s cost is 289 billion tenge. The planned production capacity is 1.2 million tons of steel per year. The plant will create 600 jobs.
The ceremonial laying of the facility’s foundation stone took place with the participation of representatives of local authorities, design organizations, and foreign investors.
As noted by Marat Sultangaziev, Governor of the Almaty Region, the future plant could become one of the largest metallurgical enterprises in southern Kazakhstan. Its commissioning will boost not only the region’s potential but also the economic strength of the entire republic.
“In the Head of State’s current Address to the Nation, special attention is paid to the development of the manufacturing industry,” the governor noted. “The construction of the Asia United Steel plant is a concrete step toward an industrial breakthrough. Each such project forms the region’s industrial backbone, creates jobs, contributes to the expansion of the tax base, and facilitates the adoption of modern technologies.”
The steel plant will occupy an area of 78 hectares. Here, within the “Kazybek-bek” industrial zone, which opened just a month ago, 11 enterprises are initially planned to be located. Their main areas of activity include metallurgy and metalworking, mechanical engineering, the production of construction materials and industrial equipment, as well as cargo storage services. The total cost of the projects is 640 billion tenge. Their implementation will create 2,500 jobs.
According to Yerbol Shokaev, CEO of the management company for industrial zones in the Almaty region, 567 hectares have been allocated to investors. Over the next two years, the Kazybek-Bek Industrial Zone will be equipped with a 150 MW power transmission line, a water supply system, and rail logistics capacity for 100 railcars per day. Currently, temporary electricity and water supply networks have been provided to entrepreneurs for the duration of the construction of production facilities and warehouse spaces.
In his response, Lin Guoshun, founder of Asia United Steel, recognized the Almaty region as one of the most promising areas for cooperation and business in Kazakhstan. This project is fully financed by foreign investment. The plant will produce construction and industrial steel products in demand in both domestic and foreign markets. The main goal is to supply products to Central Asian countries.
Investors plan to complete construction and installation work by 2027. The plant will install energy-efficient steel melting furnaces and implement technologies that minimize environmental impact. As the ceremony participants assured, the facility will fully comply with the environmental standards adopted in the country.
