As part of the investment agreement signed with the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Alstom has successfully completed the commissioning of a wheel lathe at the service center in Shu, reports Rail-news.kz.
The equipment was delivered to Shu at the end of 2024, and installation was completed in March 2025. Commissioning and staff training were successfully completed in October 2025.
The installation of this modern equipment will significantly increase the availability of locomotives in KZT’s operational fleet by reducing downtime during wheel set turning by at least 50%.
This is an important contribution by Alstom to the development of Kazakhstan’s railway industry. The new equipment will ensure high-quality and timely maintenance of rolling stock in accordance with international standards and will contribute to the smooth operation of trains across the entire network.
