Производство тепловозов в Казахстане: в 2025 году собрано 62 локомотива

Statistics have been released for one of the key sectors of Kazakhstan’s machine-building industry — diesel locomotive production. From January through November of this year, 62 diesel locomotives were produced in the country, according to the inbusiness.kz portal.

Compared to last year, there has been a slight decline in production volumes. For instance, during the same period in 2024, 78 units were produced in the country. Experts attribute this trend to market demand and the planned utilization of the plant’s production capacity.

The main enterprise engaged in the production of diesel locomotives in Kazakhstan is “Lokomotiv Kurastyru Zauyty.” Currently, the plant is 100% owned by the American company Wabtec.

Today, the company is fulfilling a major order to assemble Evolution Series ES44ACi (TE33A) diesel locomotives, specially designed for Kazakhstan Railways JSC. According to a previously published Wabtec press release, locomotives in this series are designed to improve the efficiency of rail transport.

The plant’s plans for the future are also quite ambitious. According to the information provided, the plant plans to assemble 300 TE33AT series locomotives over the next 10 years. The implementation of this project will not only increase the country’s transit capacity but also modernize the railway fleet with state-of-the-art equipment.
